Writers, Composers and Artists
This page relates to self-employed creative persons who want either to establish themselves in the United Kingdom or to go to the UK for a limited period in order to display and sell their work. Such persons must have already established themselves outside the UK as writers, composers or artists, primarily engaged in producing original work which has been published (other than exclusively in newspapers or magazines), performed or exhibited for its literary, musical or artistic merit. Candidates must show that they have for the previous year been able to sustain and accommodate themselves and their dependants from their own resources without working except as a writer, composer or artist.
Entry Clearance Requirements
The requirements to be met by a person seeking entry clearance the United Kingdom as a writer, composer or artist are that he/she:
- Has established himself /herself outside the UK as a writer, composer or artist primarily engaged in producing original work which has been published (other than exclusively in newspapers or magazines), performed or exhibited for its literary, musical or artistic merit; and
- Does not intend to work except as related to his self employment as a writer, composer or artist; and
- Has for the preceding year been able to maintain and accommodate himself/herself and any dependants from his/her own resources without working except as a writer, composer or artist; and
- Will be able to sustain and accommodate himself/herself and any dependants from his/her own resources without working as a writer, composer or artist and without recourse to public funds.
